From February 1st through the 10th, 2007, the streets of Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah, will come alive with elite athletes and their supporters from over 24 countries around the world, who will compete at the 16th Winter Deaflympics.

The Deaflympics, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, is the second oldest multi-sport and cultural festival on earth, with a long and proud history since the Inaugural Games in Paris, France in 1924. The 16th Winter Deaflympics will be the fourth time the Deaflympics have been staged in the United States. The Summer Deaflympics were held at Washington D.C. in 1965 and Los Angeles in 1985, and the Winter Deaflympics at Lake Placid, N.Y. in 1975.

Commencing with the twilight opening ceremony at the 2002 Olympics Cauldron Park, the spectacular arrival of the official Deaflympic touch, lighting of the caldron, and rising of the Olympic Rings will set the scene for 10 days of intensive competition and cultural celebrations. More than 300 athletes and 5,000 spectators from over 24 countries will be a part of this global event, with competition venues at Salt Lake City, Park City, and the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
